Saudi Arabia recently opened up its doors to tourism and to celebrate, a brand new festival was born in the middle of the desert - MDL Beast. The planning required an incredibly quick turnaround as the festival had only been envisioned a few months prior to opening. I was working with the production company in Riyadh whilst remaining in the UK, curating a perfect team of LED based performers to stage the nightly parades. Alongside this MDL Beast commissioned an 8m high helium filled Camel Unicorn and 4 baby camels which would be the parades show stopping moment. I oversaw the making of these and flew over to Saudi with all 5 camels in my suitcase, alongside a team of 15 performers. The 400K capacity festival ran for 4 days in which time I managed a programme of multiple roaming performances alongside the two daily parades, and let’s not forget the inflation of our camels!
